Budapest
Budapest has been one of my favourite holiday destinations. I was actually more excited about Budapest then I was about going to New York. I much prefer European countries to the United States. There is just more of an atmosphere and culture about East European countries, with the medieval architecture and castles etc.
It is not a long flight to Budapest, about two and a half hours so it is a good place to visit that is not too far away.
We decided to Air B n B our stay at Budapest. We had never used it before so was a bit apprehensive about it. Staying in someone’s house / apartment in a foreign country. But the room was £16 a night because there was no hot water as they were doing work on the building. We didn’t mind as we were not staying that long and you can’t beat a bargain and there were always showers in the thermal spas if needed.
We took a taxi straight to the apartment. Budapest seems to be in a grid system with a lot of one ways so our apartment was on a long road with a few bars near. I went and left my rucksack in the taxi, like you do and as our Air B and B host turned up, the taxi driver had come back round the block with my bag so that was lucky. I had my passport and money on me, but I had my tablet and note pads in there. Could buy another tablet but can’t buy back my notes. And the note pads were Zelda and Super Mario ones too!
So, we were given a key, shown into a flat on the ground floor and shown into our room. We could use the rest of the flat but this was our own room. Apparently, there was nobody else staying, maybe put off by the lack of hot water, but I am convinced there were people coming in and out during the night. Maybe the host herself because she did come in at ten o’clock one night to ‘clean’, which was a bit weird (you have to pay an extra cleaning fee, or do it yourself). And there were a few goldfish in a tank in the living room outside our room on the floor with a little light on. I kept thinking should I feed them but probably best to leave it. Don’t want to kill any ones pet goldfish and leave us a bad review on Air B and B. Goldfish Murderers.
Our room was nice and big. Wooden floor, big wardrobe, big bay windows, wooden bed with a little ladder and another bed that was closer to the floor. I got the big, wooden bed to myself because I really don’t think it could have held two of us. And my wife is a big lady and I’m no feather either. Plus, I think it was already broken underneath, whenever I turned in it, it creaked and groaned like it was going to collapse. But still, got my own double bed to myself.
Even though it is Air B and B, as in bed and breakfast, we didn’t get breakfast with our stay, as we were new to it we didn’t think anything of it. We are still relatively new to Air B and B so this is something to look into whether all hosts offer breakfast.
